Laser hair removal in the summer

Laser hair removal is a popular and effective method of removing unwanted hair growth. At Skincenters we work with the Lutronic Clarity 2. This is a fiber laser which works with two wavelengths (alexandrite & ndyag) to safely treat any hair and skin type. The laser emits a concentrated beam of light which is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles. As a result, the hair follicle is also destroyed along with it and thus no new hair growth can take place at that location.

Can laser hair removal be done in the summer?

At Skin Centers, we understand the frustration of traditional hair removal methods, such as shaving or waxing, which offer only temporary relief. Laser hair removal breaks this cycle and offers a long-term solution to unwanted hair. And best of all? It can even be done in the summer for areas that are not constantly exposed to the sun, such as the armpits and bikini line.

But why is laser hair removal suitable for these areas, even during the summer months? Let's look at the science behind it. The laser beam used in laser hair removal targets the pigment in the hair follicles under the skin. Because the armpits and bikini line are usually covered and less exposed to direct sunlight, the skin and pigment in these areas are less susceptible to changes caused by sun exposure after treatment. This makes laser hair removal in these areas safe and effective, even during the summer.

On the other hand, areas that are constantly exposed to the sun, such as the legs, may be a little more challenging during the summer months because of the skin's sensitivity to sunlight after treatment. The sun's heat and UV rays can make the skin more sensitive and increase the risk of side effects such as sunburn or pigment changes. Therefore, we recommend performing laser hair removal for these areas during the less sunny months for optimal comfort and safety.

It is important to note that laser hair removal for all areas produces the best results on skin that is not tanned. Therefore, we recommend avoiding direct sun exposure and always using a sunscreen with a high SPF on treated areas, even if they are not directly exposed to the sun.

Is laser hair removal painful?

In general, most people experience laser hair removal as not painful to mildly uncomfortable, similar to a slight tingle or the feeling of a rubber band against the skin. At Skincenters, we always use cooling to minimize discomfort.
